Schnibbles Times Two Contest - Quilt #2

McGuffey...the big one.  This is my second entry for the Schnibbles Times Two Contest being sponsored by Kelly over at Cotton Charm Quilts.  Talk about getting it done just in time.  I did an overall meandering stitch all over the quilt using a red variegated thread.  Except on the inner border (white), I changed the thread to a winter white.

CHRISTMAS IN JULY!

Scnibbles Times Two Contest

I've finished my first Schnibbles! Very exciting!  This is the second time I used my sewing machine to quilt a quilt.  I did the 'line' thing & am happy with how it turned out.  I wanted the center of the star to be the focal point.  I'm really pleased with how this turned out.

A fast update...

I just finished my first Schnibbles - Plan C!  But I'm not going to post a full frontal shot (hee hee!) until I can have good light - know what I mean?  I hope to do a proper post tomorrow...it is waaaay past my bedtime and on top of that it's a school night.  Okay, got to go.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Log-A-Load for Kids 2010

It's done!  I made the Scrap Bag Baby quilt from the Moda Bake Shop.  I just love this recipe!  This is what I will be donating for the silent auction:

And just to let you know, Log-A-Load for Kids raises money for the Arkansas Children's Hospital. LAL is made up of people from the forestry/timber/logging industry. I have been in this group for 11 years now and it is very dear to my heart.  The hospital will see any child from any state, for more information you can go here - Arkansas Children's Hospital.

ps...I think Snowball likes it.

Between Charming Quilt Along - FINISHED!!!

I just hate how the picture does not do the colors in this quilt justice...ANYHOO!  Well, I ordered the 'Double Bubble - Petite' pantograph and after I got done with it - it should be called 'Double Square' LOL!  This is the first time I did a pantograph on Bessie.  For now, I can say - been there done that.  And besides this being one great pattern, I was really excited about the thread color I used to quilt this baby!  I used a purpley variegated thread on top & a lime variegated thread on the bottom - very exciting!

Thanks to Kelly & Darlene for a SUPER DUPER fun quilt along.  I loved how you had the choice between a small or big one.  I can't wait for the next one!

MCGUFFEY...big.

This is really a pretty pattern.  You can see big blocks of the fabric and that's one thing I like about this pattern.  Speaking of fabric, Holly Taylor...AWESOME.  When I use dark colors, I have to step out of my comfort zone.  But the colors she uses are just elegant.  I've seen her lines here and there.  I even have some Migration in my stash but after using Northwood Botanicals - I love her!

Sneak Peek...

So, I got a little side tracked from my CGQC's goals...lol!  I mean it's not like it's a legal contract - is it Kelly?  It's more like guidelines.  So this top has been bothering me for the past 6 months(?).  The commercial version - made this quilt top for my sister (b-day present) but got more excited about the line instead of picking out her color - blues.  See all the pink?  No blues in that puppy, So I ended up making her this...
It's just a picture of the quilt top, like a goof - I didn't take any pictures of the completed quilt. Anyhoo, I much happier with Big Blue Bouquet and she liked it so in the end that's all I cared about.  So, now that I got the quilting part of it out of the way, I might add the binding project to my Sept/Oct list.  I feel so much better getting the quilting done - NOW I can focus on my list! LOL!  Have a wonderful weekend!

CGQC July & August Goals

Kelly has shakin' some things up at the club.  If you hadn't had a chance to see what the changes are - click here! The theme for July/August is:

You can check it out here.  I have a few things to share but I'll get to that sometime soon.  I also need a couple of more days to think about my 1. My & 2. Family priorities...I want a little more time to think about it.  Well, come to think of it I can at least list MY goals for July & August:
  1. Plan C (small) Schnibbles - quilt & bind it before the contest deadline (July 30th???)
  2. McGruffey (big) Schnibbles - making it from scratch, hope to complete it in time for the contest deadline.
  3. Wiscasset Flag - quilt & bind & then mail it - ASAP.
  4. Between Charming Friends Quilt Along (small) - quilt & bind it.
CAN I GET FRIES WITH THAT? lol! Okay, that it's for now.  I want to get some sewing in tonight...hehehe!

Alzheimer's...

(WARNING - SUPER LONG POST...)

is not a pretty thing, by the grace of God we don't have it in our family gene pool - that we know of.  But the funny thing is my mom went to CA (several months ago) to visit her sister & sure enough my aunt showed signs of memory loss -she's only in her mid 70's.  My mom was really freaking out.  At first she would argue with my aunt about whatever, until my mom got a clue - her sister didn't remember.  She stayed there for about 2 months (can't remember how long - no pun intended) so she had the chance to see the changes in her sister's behavior.  Of course - this just upset my mom.  She'd call me crying and tell me that if she lost her mind that I should put her in a home...on and on.  But I reminded her that I would take care of her - in our home until she went HOME - know what I'm talking about?  That didn't comfort her, so I told her it wouldn't matter what I say now because if/when you do lose your mind, you'll be living with me and you won't even know it - so this conversation is usless.  She laughed and said okay.  And we made arrangements for my aunt before my mom left.  Which brings me to the reason I'm doing this post...Jeffree Itrich.

Jeffree contacted & asked me if I would be interested in spreading this message:

Quilts brighten the lives of Alzheimer's Patients

Quilters have long known that a quilt is a loving tribute that bonds quilters with recipients across generations and across vast distances. The warmth of a quilt is enhanced by the often bright patterns and colorful images which frequently suggest a simpler time.
Under a unique donation program organized by Jeffree Itrich of the Alzheimer's Disease Cooperative Study (ADCS) and the University of California San Diego, quilts are brightening the lives of Alzheimer's patients around the nation.
The Alzheimer’s Study Quilt Program began in late January 2010. As a quilter herself, she knows how positively people react when given a quilt and how quilters are amazingly generous people. Her plea for quilts to give participants in the NGF (Nerve Growth Factor) Study was picked up by numerous quilting newsletters. Good Samaritans circulated the request for quilts and they began arriving from communities all over the U.S. The program has received nearly enough quilts for all the NGF Study participants and are now looking for quilts for our IgIV and ADNI studies.

Those study participants who have received quilts so far realize that the quilts were made with love, sincerity, and gratitude (to the volunteers for participating in the study and helping future generations). Many of the quilters had family members with Alzheimer’s (AD). One woman who lost her mother to AD made and donated 12 quilts and another whose grandfather had AD provided 11 quilts. A woman in Pennsylvania made five flannel quilts in one week!

If you would like to donate a lap-sized quilt to the Alzheimer’s Quilt Study Project, please contact Jeffree Itrich at jitrich@ucsd.edu.

Now, I went ahead & clicked on http://www.adcs.org/ to learn a little more.  After exchanging emails with Jeffree, I feel like this is a good cause.  I was asked to spread this message.  So, to anyone out there who might be interested, you can learn more at http://www.adcs.org/.  Also, here is a picture of Jeffree holding a donated quilt & if you have any questions you can contact her at:

'Comment' problem

Due to technical problems (& probably hitting the wrong key) comments are not showing up on my blog. So I'll be trying to figure it out. If anyone has suggestions, please leave me a comment - because it will go to my email. Thanks!

Quick update...

Hope everyone had a fun & safe 4th!  We did!  I just wanted to share a few tops I finished.
With this first top, I was inspired by Lisa - Crafty Little Mama. This one needs to be quilted & binded then mailed out asap:

This one needs to be quilted & binded.  Just wanting for the panto:
This is my CGQC quilt that I need to quilt & bind.  Too bad the picture came out a little dark - it's much prettier in person.  The lime color reminds me of that song...You put the lime in the coconut, I said DOCTOR...anyhoo...
I finally finished my Astor Manor scrap bag baby recipe...it's a very fun & simple pattern.  I love it!  You can find it on the Moda Bake Shop.
Then I couldn't help myself & went ahead and did one in Nautical & Nice.
